Below are the Top 10 FAQs that we have been getting over the last month. If you have other questions, please don’t hesitate to comment/text/call/or email us – we’d love to share more about what Jesus has been doing in our lives!

  1. What is The World Race?

The World Race is an 11-month-long mission experience that travels through 11 countries, partnering with local ministry organizations to bring the freedom and joy of the gospel to some of the most forgotten places in the world. 2. Why did you choose “The World Race”?

We chose The World Race because of it’s structure and focus on the simple gospel. Our job as missionaries will be to wake up, pray, listen, and respond to what Jesus has for us that day. This excites us deep down inside. We will also have the opportunity to learn while working with 11+ international development organizations that are passionately impacting the communities they are a part of. Incredible ministry is happening in these places, they just need help… and we want to help!

  3. Where are you going?

We will be going to Chile, Bolivia, Argentina/Paraguay, Cambodia, Thailand, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda. Each month we won’t know exactly where we will be heading within a country until a few days before. This is due to the many ministry contacts in each country and their differing needs for that specific month.

  4. What will you be doing?

Ministry in each country looks different. Most months when we land in a country we will be assigned a local “ministry contact” that we will serve alongside. Ministry on the race can look like anything from working with an orphanage or school to building projects to clean water initiatives all while sharing the gospel of freedom and joy.

  5. But what about your jobs?

Leaving our jobs is definitely scary, and a big risk. However, both of our bosses and coworkers have been SO supportive in this decision. We are confident in our abilities, and we would not be in the jobs we have now if it weren’t for God’s intervention. He has shown up before, and we know he will do it again!

  6. But what about your house?

We are talking with our awesome realtor Jon Bell, who is assessing the market and our options. Ideally, we will be putting our house on the market in the spring and selling it before August. If it sells fast, we will live with Kayla’s brother Lucas in Indy, or sign a short-term lease until August. If we can’t sell it, we will work with Jon to find someone to rent it out while we are away.

  7. But what about starting a family?

This was something that we considered a lot before making the decision to go on the race. We can’t wait to be parents, but we know that this is such an incredible opportunity, and we don’t want to miss it. We are still very young, and can’t wait to start a family when we get back! We believe our kids will have much richer lives from us taking this risk, and we’re excited about the stories we will get to share with them and our grandchildren one day!

  8. Will you be on a team together?

Yes – We will be on a team together. We are on a squad of about 50 people who will be on the same route as us, and visit the same countries. In each country, we will be broken into teams of 6 or 7 and sent to different ministries throughout the country. We will always be together… which is good because RJ is carrying the tent! 😉

  9. Aren’t you worried about safety?

Evil is a part of this world, and that’s a hard truth. Safety is obviously a concern, but with the state of the world today, there is just as much chance that we run across evil in Indianapolis than when we are in Serbia. Fear is not from God, and we choose to live in the safety and reassurance of his Word:

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Adventures in Missions takes the safety of its racers very seriously. Our route could change up until the time we are supposed to enter that country. They are constantly assessing and modifying routes based on what is best for racers.

  10. What can I do to support you?

There are 3 easy ways you can support us:

    1. Share our story – we know a lot of people, but we know you know even more! We want people to know the great work that God is doing, so share please our blog and ministry page with anyone who you think would be interested.

    2. Financially – we have to raise $36,034 for the cost of the trip, plus the cost of backpacking gear, vaccines, and other personal costs associated with traveling for 11 months. Just follow the donate button at the top of the page – any amount helps!

    1. You can become a monthly partner by setting up a recurring donation that will auto-draft from your account until we are fully funded.

    2. You can give a one-time gift.

    3. You can pray for us, our ministry, and the rest of our team. We know this isn’t going be easy. There will definitely be tough days. But knowing we have the prayers of all our supporters back home will be a huge comfort!
