I can’t believe we finished our FINAL month of ministry on the World Race! It doesn’t seem real that we started this journey almost a year ago. This month in Uganda was one of my favorite months of ministry!

We were with three teams this month – Team Cheetah Girls, Team Lightsabers, and Team Sisters. It was awesome to end the Race with so many friends. We were partnered with Lightforce International, a ministry based out of the UK.

There were many different opportunities for ministry this month. My main ministry was working at the primary school that was started by Lightforce. There are 7 classes, with students ranging from 5 to 16 years old. There were 6 teachers that went to the school everyday, and we each had a primary class. I was the lead teacher for P6 – ages 12 to 14. The unique thing about this ministry was that we weren’t teaching English, we were teaching Reading. The kids already know how to speak English, because English is an official language of Uganda and the whole school is taught in English. Also, these students can already read fairly well, so I got to teach them grammar and other reading skills. It was so fun coming up with lesson plans and getting to interact with the same students every day for three weeks. I taught about nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, compound words, syllables, suffixes, and prefixes. I also helped out in P1, P2, P3, and P5.

RJ and the others did various projects around Lightforce while I was at the school:

Before/After of the warehouse

RJ after carrying bags of coal all day

Several of us organized boxes and boxes of school supplies

RJ had to lift heavy bags of corn cobs all day

Friends that RJ made while threshing corn

For four days, we spread out the maize to dry it out, then shoveled it into bags and used wheelbarrows to store the corn in the warehouse.

One day, RJ and a few other squad mates walked around the community. They visited with Mama Joyce and her husband all afternoon and helped them harvest ground nuts.

RJ and others gave free eye screenings to the students using a cute storybook.

Lightforce also sponsors 16 children that live on the compound and attend the school. They loved to sing and dance, color, and watch movies!

Some of the kids helped us shell peanuts one Sunday.

They LOVED to sing.

Our last month of ministry was AMAZING!
